__ D'après la légende, Illumination était une épée flamboyante portée par Azor Ahai, également connu sous les noms de Hyrkoon le Héro, Yin Tar, Neferion, et Eldric Shadowchaser ; un héro légendaire qui a combattu les forces obscures qui menaçaient le monde il y a de cela des milliers d'années. La légende d'Illumination raconte comment Azor a forgé l'épée dans le temple sacré. Cette histoire est racontée dans le Compendium de Jade, un recueil de conte et légendes orientaux dans les livres :

__ D'après cette légende très macabre, Illumination était une épée flamboyante, forgée dans un feu sacré, et tempéré par le sang du cœur d'une femme, et enrichie par la vie et l'âme de cette dernière. On a déjà vu comment Melisandre essaye de manipuler les événements pour que la prophétie corresponde à Stannis Baratheon. Ainsi, elle allume un feu sacré dédié à R'hllor, où les idoles en bois des Sept sont brûlées, avec une épée plantée dans celle de la Mère :

[...] The king plunged into the fire with his teeth clenched, holding the leather cloak before him to keep off the flames. __ Si Daenerys Targaryen est bel et bien la réincarnation d'Azor Ahai, alors où est son épée flamboyante ? Les prophéties peuvent être lues de manière littérale ou symboliques, parfois des deux façons à la fois. L'épée rouge de Daenerys n'est donc pas forcément une vraie épée. Dans les livres les dragons de Daenerys sont d'ailleurs comparés à des armes... et plus spécifiquement, à une épée :

__ → “Melisandre swears that she has seen me in her flames, facing the dark with Lightbringer raised on high. __ La dernière citation lie Illumination et les dragons, et les dragons sont même décrits comme des épées flamboyantes puisqu'ils sont du feu vivant. Cependant, Daenerys a mis au monde trois dragons, quand la légende ne parle que d'une seule épée.
__ Azor Ahai a tenté de forger Illumination par trois fois, la lame n'ayant pas supporté le tempérage les deux premières fois. Daenerys a donné naissance à trois dragons sur le bûcher funéraire de son mari. Dans la partie précédente on parlait du fait que Daenerys avait contracté un mariage avec le feu lui même pour pouvoir devenir la Mère des Dragons. Ainsi, Viserion, Rhaegal et Drogon sont des armes forgées dans un feu sacré... mais ce feu qui les a mis au monde ne représente que le forgeage, et donc le tempérage reste à faire.
__ Si les trois dragons correspondent aux trois lames forgées par Azor Ahai, quel dragon correspond à quelle lame ? L'ordre dans lequel les œufs ont éclos peut fournir un indice :

Quand Illumination lui transperça le cœur, Nissa Nissa laissa échapper un “cry of anguish and ecstasy left a crack across the face of the moon.” Un craquement qui fait penser à l'effondrement du monde, et un cri qui fendit la lune.
